These boys all over decided to have a crayon fight oif course if didnt find our untill it was to late 5 days after the cray fight Erica brought big dady up to my bedroom crying something was wrong with him. Well  knew the second i saw him he would be dead in minutes we had no idea what happened.

I had a bit of a crisis here earlier, had it not been for the advice pages, which I always re read, I would not have known what to do and two of our chins could have died from shock.  Nothing I add hurriedly to do with this house.  Thank fully both are now recovered, I just cannot stress enough how vital it could be for people to know the advice pages, like me today, they could help to save your chins lives.  So know them inside out, because you may not have time to look it up.

So KC thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Also a huge thank you for calming me down once the crisis was over

Many thanks for all your help last night Aileen.
Missy is a bit more alert today, tho' still not herself. She is drinking by herself now tho'... so that's a huge relief.
Am running the aircon very cold in the chin room, so hopefully she'll improve more over the next few days.
For everyone else's info... my chinroom is never hot, but last night I rearranged cages which resulted in females chasing each other.
When I went up to check, Missy was on her side and when I removed her from the cage had a fit in my arms. She was totally lifeless for hours and on AIleeen's advice I syringed sugared water into her, every hour throughout the night.
Anyway, happily today, she is once again upright and more alert. Still not 100%, so we aren't out of the woods yet, but I am keeping my fingers crossed. Certainly way better than last night when I was sure I was gonna lose her.
So an extra warning out to all chin owners.................... the room doesn't have to be hot for a chin to suffer heatstroke and fit.... it can be bought on by too much exercise or flying around a cage.
Just hoping that someone else can avoid making the same mistake as I did. next time I introduce to new cages my aircon will be on max.... even on the coldest of nights
Thanks again Aileen... lets hope Missy continues to improve... you certainly saved her life last night with your advice
Sue

Aileen, I don't know whether or not you will remember, but about two and a half years ago my sister contacted your site saying that I had a very poorly chinchilla and that despite regular visits to my local vet, she was getting worse not better.  The chinchilla was constantly pawing at her mouth, dribbling and as time went on she was also beginning to bleed from her mouth.

Initially you directed my sister and I to a vet in Bradford, Johanna Storm at the International Zoo Veterinary Group who practises at the Shearbridge Centre.  She was absolutely marvellous.  On my first visit to her I was in tears because I was so worried about my poor little chinchilla, Bonnie.  However, I left with smile on my face knowing that she was in very safe hands and would be operated on the following day.

Johanna found that Bonnie had terrible spurs, a very large abscess, horrendous ulcers, and numerous infections.  She only gave her a fifty fifty chance of survival.

As I didn't have access to the Internet until now, you kindly allowed me to phone you for advice in between Bonnie's veterinary appointments which was much appreciated.

At her worst, Bonnie's weight plummeted to 273 grams.  But with lots and lots of TLC from my sister and I, feeding her round the clock, including through the night and coming home from work in my lunch-breaks, regular visits to the vet and with your advice, within 6 months she made a full recovery.

Since her recovery, her maximum weight has been 481 grams although this does fluctuate slightly.  She still has to visit the vet every 6 to 8 weeks for a dental but otherwise is fighting fit and back to her happy, active self and nosey/inquisitive ways.

I am so grateful to you for all your help.  Without your advice she wouldn't have pulled through.   I have never known a vet like Johanna and would not trust anyone else to treat Bonnie.

I had tried to download a photo from my mobile to send you so you can see how well she looks, but as I have already said, I am an Internet novice and haven't quite mastered that yet.  If and when I get the hang of modern technology, I will send the picture to you.

In the meantime, all I can say again is a very big THANK YOU.  Your website is fantastic, such an invaluable source of information to new and old chinchilla owners alike.

Kind regards,
Nicola West Yorkshire
