These pics are two rescue chinchillas who came to us in a sorry state
Within a few days they were confident in how they were held securely

Step one:- to pick up your chinchilla hold it
firmly by gripping it at the base of it's tail
as seen on left. You will NOT hurt your chinchilla,
just make sure you grip its tail firmly as near
to it's body as possible.
If you dont hold tail and grip near the tip?
you may get fur slip occurring.
Fur slip is when a chinchilla sheds it's fur to escape
a predator in the wilds.

Next step Lifting:-
After you are confident with the tail hold.
again grip the tail between your thumb
and fore finger next to the base of
it's body, quickly scoop your other
hand under its body to support it
before you then lift
chinchilla up.
When a chinchilla is held
like this it feels secure. It's body fully supported.
A chinchilla doesn't like to be grabbed each side and picked up
legs dangling. It will struggle to get away from you.
A confident secure chinchilla, is a happy chinchilla.
Safe playtime remove any hazards
I will be adding here to a training chinchillas in a small safe play area
Will also add a ink here to some more chinchillas we have rescued and
all now have lovely homes as pets. As most people know it is not advisable
to breed with rescue chinchillas or store bought chinchillas as you don't
know the gene line behind them. To breed indiscriminately like that is
