If you cannot spend much time with your chinchilla, or if perhaps you are working and think your chinchilla may be bored while you are gone a chinchilla wheel is indeed a great option.
Be warned though.
If your chinchilla isn't so young any longer it would be unwise to introduce a wheel to the cage unless of course you add to outside of cage or supervise it's use all the time.
Be very watchful too in summer so that your chinchilla doesnt suffer heat-stroke which often proves fatal.
When looking for a wheel for your chinchilla try to buy the flying saucer one. I personally would not recommend any other. This one allows perfect posture while running, perfectly safe with no risks whatever and the chinchilla can jump off very easily indeed.

One bit of warning though, as it's pretty addictive and very good exercise, you might find that you'll need to increase your chin's pellets a bit as they use up so much energy running. Also young kits shouldn't be on the adult wheel, if you want a flying saucer for them, consider the smaller version that's made for degu's and rats, and change to a bigger once once the kits are closer to 3 months of age.
This wheel do have it's "side effects" though, be prepared for a super quick chin!!! They get so fit on this wheel that they can be hard to catch if they don't want to go back in their cages LOL.
My degu's have had their wheels for two years now, and my new chin has had his for a month, and they LOVE the wheel, and are very quick and got more stamina than me when it comes to exercising [thank you Bonny]
