Getting your Chinchilla back in the cage after playtime
A good tip when you first start to allow your chinchilla out for a playtime after you have got him/her used to your hand by putting it into cage is.

To feed your chinchilla, simply fill a feed cup with chinchilla pellets (fortified alfalfa pellets), which are available at your pet store. If it knows food is available regularly, a chinchilla will eat 1 to 2 tablespoons of the pellets daily. Make sure the food stays clean and fresh. Always buy quality pellets. Never feed rabbit food hamster food or peanuts. Fruit is fine as an occasional treat, most chinchillas seem to love raisins but your chinchilla may develop a preference for the sugary taste if given fruit too often. Ryvita rye crispbread is suitable as a treat too. They love it. Another suitable supplement is alfalfa or timothy hay, which will help satisfy the animal's need to gnaw and keep its teeth in excellent condition. Your chinchilla may also like to chew on blocks of untreated white pine. To provide water, attach a water bottle with drinking tube to the outside of the cage. Be sure to keep the bottle filled with fresh water, which is changed daily. Clean the bottle once a week too. Just what is your chinchilla saying to you with that clicking sound or the barking sound? just click to above link to listen.
Are Chinchillas suitable pets for children who think of a pet as a cuddly toy? My quick reply is NO.Some children do not make suitable owners for chinchillas
Many children think their chinchilla is going to be like a fluffy kitten or puppy who likes to be petted etc. Wrong. It takes patience to win a chinchilla over. They also live for many years. Is your child still going to be able to look after a chinchilla once they grow up and start high school, college and so on. Boyfriends/girlfriends taking up their time? My son has been looking after chinchillas since he was able to walk. He now has chinchillas he breeds and shows and sells himself. I am not saying children should not have one. I am just asking you to think before buying that eye catching creature you see in the pet shop or see pictures of. I have so many chinchillas now come to me for re-homing from childrens' parents as the chidren have reached their teen years and judt do not give their pets the attention they need. All I ask is that you think well before you buy.
